New York, NY
Built in 1923, Julia Richman has served New York students through much social and educational change. By the mid 1990’s, the school’s budget problems and academic decline prompted a major reinvention of the school’s programs. In 1995 the school was organized into six autonomous schools. As a multi-age, multi-service learning community, the small schools share a day-care center, comprehensive healthcenter, and a professional development institute serving teachers in New York’s small schools network.
