Federal Way, WA
Todd Beamer High School, in Federal Way, Washington, opened in the fall of 2003 as three small school academies serving 1300 students, grades 9-12. The building was designed with enough flexibility to convert easily to eight small schools. Currently, four small school academies exist on the campus. All of the academies share a kitchen area, cafeteria, black box theatre, music rooms and physical education facilities. Students from all four Beamer academies participate on common athletic teams, share school-wide extracurricular activities, and use competition-level sports fields located next to the school.
